In the late sixties we used to go looking for Newts in the Brickyard on Mapperley top,we often caught Crested Newts which are very rare today.

After the weekend I took this Newt to School,

The teacher Mr Aldridge put it in a tank and there it stayed in our Class for a time where we would observe it.Eventually though the teacher decided it was time to take the Newt back home.

I have lots of fond memories of Elms infants and junior school.I met one of the Teachers many years later,Mr Richie he said to me that his best years as a teacher were spent at Elms junior school..
